Prevalence of Treatment, by Frequency of Use (Table 12.3 and 12.4)

Table 12.3 presents the estimated percentages of past year marijuana and cocaine users who reported receiving drug abuse treatment by frequency of use. Although only about 2% of those who used marijuana on fewer than 12 days in the past year reported receiving drug treatment, about 7% of those who used marijuana daily or almost daily in the past year reported receiving drug treatment. For cocaine, the NHSDA samples of heavy users were too small to allow a detailed examination of differences in receipt of treatment.

Table 12.4 shows corresponding information for alcohol use and alcohol treatment. Respondents who drank on 51 or more days in the past year (2.5% to 2.6%) were more than three times as likely as those who drank fewer than 12 days in the past year (0.8%) to report having received treatment for alcohol abuse.
